You must bring the following documents to prove identification and residency; you must present these documents when you check in for your appointment:

Senate Bill 13-251, The Colorado Road and Community Safety Act, authorizes the issuance of a Colorado driver license, instruction permit or identification card to those individuals who either cannot demonstrate lawful presence in the U.S. or can only demonstrate temporary lawful presence in the U.S.  You must bring the following documents to prove identification and residency; you must present these documents when you check in for your appointment:

  • Passport or Consular Card or Military IDProof of ITIN or Social Security NumberProof of Residency for two years showing the customer’s name, current address and a date less than a year old
  • Colorado Taxes showing 2 years living in Colorado

If you are taking a drive test, please have the vehicle’s insurance and registration out and available for the examiner.More information on the documents need are on our SB251 flowchart and DR 2300C (Spanish).Call 303-205-2335 to set up a SB251 appointment. Appointments aren’t needed for immigrants who can demonstrate temporary legal presence, unless a driving test is needed.
